Extra Cash for Shop Owners

Connecting DIYers with Private Shops

Affordable Spaces

We connect private shop and garage owners who have underused tools and space with DIY mechanics in need, fostering a community of collaboration and support.

By renting out their underused tools and space, shop and garage owners can earn a little extra cash, while supporting the DIY community, giving DIY mechanics a place to work on their rides.

Why create diyshopfinder.com?

Back in college, a friend and I often found ourselves frustrated by the lack of space to work on our cars. During one of these gripe sessions, we dreamed up the idea of a shop where people could rent space and tools short-term, allowing them to work on vehicles without upsetting landlords. However, as newly married, broke college students, the idea never left the drawing board.

Over the next few years, similar DIY shops began popping up across the country, but most of them didn’t last. The need was there, but the high costs of maintaining a brick-and-mortar shop and the fleeting nature of hourly rentals made the business model unsustainable.

Fast forward nearly 15 years, and I finally built a shop of my own. But soon after, unexpected bills began piling up—vet expenses, HVAC repairs, a transmission replacement—it felt endless. Looking for a way to cover these costs, I thought, Why not let others use my shop and auto lift to work on their cars?

I decided to list my shop for hourly rental on Facebook Marketplace, and here’s what I learned:

  1. Facebook Marketplace isn’t designed for by-the-hour rentals.

  2. Responding to countless "tire kickers" who never book can be frustrating and time-consuming.

  3. Scheduling and payment are a hassle, especially when people try to haggle over clearly stated prices.

  4. There’s significant demand for shop space, but private shops like mine are few and far between.

  5. No platform existed to easily connect shop owners looking for extra income with DIYers in need of space and tools.

These challenges inspired the creation of diyshopfinder.com. Our mission is simple: connect shop and garage owners who want to earn extra cash with DIY enthusiasts who need an affordable space to work on their vehicles.
